Karlstad Diocese is looking for a Curate for Continuing Education and Teaching

Do you want to help shape the future of education and continuing education for employees within the Church of Sweden? The Karlstad Diocese is looking for an engaged and experienced priest who is passionate about equipping and developing employees through continuing education and teaching.

About the position

In the role of curate for continuing education and teaching, you will play a central role in strengthening and developing the theological and homiletical competence of priests, deacons, educators, venators, emeriti, and other employees within the diocese. You will be responsible for planning and implementing ongoing education that meets both the theological depth and breadth in areas such as pastoral care, rhetoric, and much more. The position has a particular focus on meeting the needs of parishes and pastorates to strengthen their fundamental mission.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Responsibility for continuing education and teaching in areas such as theology, homiletics, pastoral care, and rhetoric. Collaborate with the diocese's theologians and employees in the parish unit to create a relevant and inspiring educational offering.
• Drive work within "Christian Faith in Our Time" – an area that includes both continuing education for church staff, volunteers, and elected officials, as well as initiatives to increase knowledge about the Christian faith and the role of the Church of Sweden in contemporary society.
• Conduct environmental analysis and capture needs from parishes and pastorates to create relevant education that responds to current challenges.
• Be part of the Parish Development department and participate in other tasks belonging to the unit. Staff services, such as the morning mass on Tuesdays in the cathedral and other diocese-related services.

About you

We are looking for someone with at least five years of experience as a parish priest in the Church of Sweden. It is a plus if you have a documented educational background and a strong desire to develop others. Since the diocesan office works digitally, it is important that you enjoy working both digitally and administratively. It is advantageous if you have previously worked with educational issues.

To thrive in this role, you are flexible and enjoy working both independently and in a team. You have good collaboration skills, are attentive, and can communicate in a pedagogical manner. You are a responsible and unpretentious person with the ability to analyze and create strategies to meet current needs.

The Karlstad Diocese is one of the 13 dioceses of the Church of Sweden and consists of parishes in the provinces of Värmland and Dalsland. The diocese's task is to promote and supervise parish life, its administration, funeral services, and to manage its land and forests. About 55 people are employed at the Karlstad Diocese, which is based in new premises centrally located in Karlstad.
